At WakeMed, our expertise allows us to pinpoint and treat the source of back, neck and spine pain and offer the most innovative nonsurgical and surgical treatment choices.
Our orthopaedists tailor treatment to each patient, and our comprehensive approach allows us to safely help patients regain an active, pain-free lifestyle.
When surgical treatment is necessary, recent advances in minimally invasive spine surgery allow our surgeons to perform spine surgery through smaller incisions, which results in less blood loss, less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery.
Our facility is also the only facility in Wake County to offer disc replacement surgery.

Conditions We Treat
- Adult Spinal Deformities: Including both idiopathic scoliosis and degenerative scoliosis
- Cervical Myelopathy: A dysfunction of the spinal cord
- Cervical Strain: Also known as whiplash
- Degenerative Disk Disease: When the discs between the vertebrae wear down
- Kyphoplasty: A procedure that can restore vertebrae bone height and reverse spinal deformity
- Lumbar and Cervical Disc Herniation: When the cushions around the discs are damaged, causing a bulge or rupture
- Neck Pain: Ranges from soreness to stabbing pain to pinching
- Radiculopathy: When one or more nerves functions incorrectly, resulting in pain, weakness, numbness or difficulty controlling muscles
- Scoliosis: Abnormal curvature of the spine that results in an “S-shaped” configuration down the back
- Spinal Stenosis: When the area around the spinal cord or nerve roots narrows, causing pinching
- Spine Tumors: Abnormal growths located either within or surrounding the spinal cord or column
- Spondylolisthesis: Occurs when a vertebra slides either forward or backward in the spine
