Proud to be a Nationally Certified Training Center for Developmentally Supportive Care

Not all babies come into the world the same way. Some require physicians and nurses who specialize in high-risk obstetric care, an expert team of maternal fetal medicine specialists and the clinical expertise, vast experience and technological resources available in the neonatal nursery or intensive care.

At WakeMed, we are proud to offer high level neonatal expertise.

What makes us special:

  • Three neonatal nurseries, including:
  • Staffed by the same experienced neonatologists, perinatologists and nurse practitioners.
  • Home to the Mothers' Milk Bank, supplying human milk to our critically ill infants
  • One of the only single patient room NICUs in the Triangle
  • NicView™ delivering an innovative Streaming Camera System placed at designated bed spaces in the NICU and allows parents, family and friends to view their infant in real-time, 24/7, through a secure on-line portal.
  • Special Infant Care Program offering comprehensive follow up for up to three years after discharge
  • Our guiding principle for providing neonatal care is a Preemie's Bill of Rights
  • And last but not least, we were fourth in the world to become a Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) certified nursery in the world and we are home to the Carolina NIDCAP Training Center. Learn more about why NIDCAP certification is important.

All this means we are able to provide the very best patient- and family-centered care for the tiniest babies, but don’t take our word for it. Our outcomes speak for themselves.
