Weight Gain after Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
Help for Weight Gain after Roux-en-Y Surgery
Transoral outlet reduction (TORe) is a non-surgical procedure to help you hit the reset button on weight gain after Roux-en-Y bariatric surgery.
It happens. You took a big step to shed that impossible-to-lose weight by having Roux-en-Y bariatric surgery. Yet several years after your procedure, you start to gain weight. This can happen because the opening between the stomach and small intestines that your surgeon created with Roux-en-Y surgery stretches over time. And, no matter what you try, you continue to gain weight.
If you have a body mass index (BMI) between 30 and 50, there’s a good chance you are a candidate for a non-invasive revision procedure called transoral outlet reduction (TORe).
How It Works
The following video was created by Boston Scientific to demonstrate the TORe procedure. This video is provided for illustrative and educational purposes only, and WakeMed makes no representations regarding the content. Please ask your doctor if you have any questions.![]()
While you are under anesthesia, the physician feeds a catheter through your mouth and down your throat to your stomach. The catheter is equipped with a tiny camera and special device. The physician then uses the device to stitch and narrow the connection between your stomach and small intestines. This non-surgical revision can help you lose weight.
Benefits of a TORe Procedure
- For many patients, a TORe procedure is a same-day procedure, meaning you go home the same day of your appointment.
- No incisions or scars
- Low chance of complications
