Credentialing and Orientation

WakeMed is a member of the Consortium for Clinical Education and Practice (CCEP), a collaborative between academic and clinical partners in the Wake Area Health Education Center region. We follow the CCEP recommendations, and as such require that the elements of the Passport are met, consistent with our Affiliation Agreements. The records are kept on file with the school and are periodically audited.

Annually the following must be kept on file with the school for clinical instructors and students:

*Current WakeMed employees may be exempt from some of the Passport requirements because they meet them through their employment. Current WakeMed employees must carry professional liability insurance that covers their school experiences.

Network and EPIC Access for Nursing and Nurse Aide Students:

  • Network and EPIC access will not be granted unless the individual successfully completes EPIC training at WakeMed. Nurse aide employees must attend a student class. RN employees will be evaluated on an individual basis. Nurse Aide II Students must complete in-person EPIC training.
  • Students and clinical instructors must apply for network and EPIC access by entering personal information Student Network Access Form. The password will be shared in the EPIC Training Directions.
  • Clinical Coordinators: Submit the WakeMed Health & Hospitals Request for Network and EPIC Access form about a month prior to the start of the term. WakeMed will use the form to create accounts which will give new students and new clinical instructors access to EPIC training.
  • After the individual successfully completes EPIC training and completes the Access Request form on the website, network and EPIC access will be processed. Within two weeks, the individual will receive an e-mail from NursingStudentPlacement@wakemed.org with details regarding the user ID and how to log in.
