Medical Assistant Apprenticeship
Medical assistants are multi-skilled health professionals who can perform clinical and administrative duties in a variety of health care settings. Our apprenticeship program prepares students to serve in these roles across the WakeMed system.

The Computed Tomography program prepares students to use specialized equipment to visualize cross-sectional anatomical structures to help diagnose diseases and other health issues. Our apprenticeship program prepares students to serve in these roles across the WakeMed system.

The 21-month Medical Sonography program prepares students for a career as a medical sonographer, a skilled health care professional who uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal structures of the body. Ultrasound Technologist ApprenticeshipSurgical Technologist Apprenticeship
Surgical Technology programs prepare students to assist in the care of the surgical patient in the operating room and to function as a vital member of the surgical team, with responsibilities that include ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are in the operating room, setting up the procedure using sterile technique, gowning and gloving themselves and others, draping the patient, performing instrument counts, handling surgical specimens, and actively anticipating and passing instruments to the surgeon. Our apprenticeship program prepares students to serve in these roles across the WakeMed system.

Respiratory therapists are essential health care providers for people with respiratory conditions and provide critical care in emergencies. They treat adults and children who have difficulty breathing due to asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, congenital heart disease, pneumonia, trauma, sleep apnea or other respiratory conditions.

The two-semester Mammography Certificate program is offered to American Registry of Radiologic Technologic (ARRT) radiologic technologists, as well as radiography students. Our apprenticeship program prepares students to serve in these roles across the WakeMed system.

Wake Tech provides high-quality instruction in emergency medical care to prepare students as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics to meet regional demand. Students learn through intensive, scenario-based instruction and the use of state-of-the-art simulation equipment to master the knowledge, hands-on skills and critical thinking needed by EMS responders to help those in need during an emergency.
