Medical Lab Scientist/Technician Apprenticeship
Medical laboratory scientists/technicians perform complex tests, ensure quality control, and support patient care across multiple clinical disciplines (some tasks below depend on educational path).
- Determine the cause of an infection and use sophisticated equipment to analyze blood's chemical components, such as glucose and cholesterol.
- Supply the health care team with a wealth of critical information, both diagnostic and therapeutic.
- Process patient samples and performing CLIA-waived, moderate, and high-complexity testing.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, troubleshooting assay problems, and report unusual results.
- Perform quality control, proficiency testing, and documenting results to maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
- Prepare reagents, monitoring inventory, and assisting with lab inspections.
- Provide technical guidance and training to students, interns, residents, and staff.
- Participate in special projects, research, and development of new laboratory tests and techniques.
