Diversity and inclusion are core values at WakeMed. We are committed to ensuring our residency program reflects our diverse community and patient care population.

How to Apply

Visit the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) website to begin the residency application process. WakeMed Internal Medicine Residency Program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) process, code 2275140C0.

For the 2025 ERAS® cycle, our program will be participating in the supplemental ERAS application offered through the AAMC’s ERAS program. Applicants will be required to complete the MyERAS application, and participation in the supplemental ERAS application is optional.

While we preferentially review applications from those who signal our program, we also consider applicants who do not signal us.

Required Materials

  • Completed ERAS application
  • Personal statement
  • Two letters of recommendation from physicians who have supervised you in a clinical setting (At least one of the physicians should be an internal medicine faculty member.) If you do not have a Dean's Letter/MSPE, please include a third letter of recommendation from a supervising physician.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • USMLE / COMLEX scores
  • Medical school transcript

Steps in the Application Process

Step 1: Complete ERAS application.

Step 2: Submit required application materials.

Step 3: Check email received through ERAS for your invitation to interview.

What to Expect

We evaluate applications in a holistic manner, without set cutoffs for USMLE/COMLEX scores or grades. We personally review applications and MSPEs before sending invitations to interview. Interviews are conducted from late October 2024 through January 2025. For 2024-2025 interview season, all interviews will be held virtually.

Summary

  • We inform applicants if they are among those selected for an interview.
  • USMLE/COMLEX scores are taken into consideration as part of the entire application packet.
  • Transparency and fairness are fundamental in our applicant process.
