Take Charge of Your Breast Health with WakeMed Imaging Services

Breast mammography patient

At WakeMed Imaging Services, we believe early detection is key to better outcomes. That’s why we offer advanced 3D mammography — our standard of care for early detection of breast cancer — to ensure the most accurate screening possible. This technology allows for clearer images and better detection of breast abnormalities, especially in dense breast tissue.

Screening Guidelines

The American Cancer Society recommends the following for women at average risk of breast cancer. Early detection makes a critical difference, so starting routine screenings at the right time is essential.

  • Women between 40 to 44 have the option to start screening with a mammogram every year.
  • Women 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year.
  • Women 55 and older can switch to mammogram every other year, or they can choose to continue yearly mammograms. Screening should continue if a woman is in good health and is expected to live at least 10 more years.

Why Choose WakeMed Imaging Services?

When it comes to your breast health, choosing WakeMed Imaging Services means choose the best in care. We’re proud to offer:

  • 3D mammography at every screening, ensuring the most detailed and accurate images for early detection.
  • Advanced imaging technology designed to detect even the smallest abnormalities in dense breast tissue.
  • Gold standard accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) in breast ultrasound, mammography and breast biopsy to ensure patients receive the highest level of image quality and safety.
  • Quick, easy appointments in a comfortable setting, making your mammogram experience as smooth as possible with online & walk-in screening scheduling options available at all locations.
  • Timely results with most patients receiving their reports within a few business days for peace of mind.

If your screening shows anything that requires a closer look, rest assured: WakeMed provides a streamlined follow-up process. Our breast imaging navigators will contact you promptly to schedule any additional imaging or consultation needed, supporting you every step of the way.

Ready to prioritize your breast health? Schedule your screening mammography at the Medical Park of Cary today. A provider referral is not needed to schedule a screening mammogram.

June is Wound Healing Awareness Month

wound care group

June is Wound Healing Awareness Month, a month-long celebration focusing on the importance of wound care.
For many people, cuts or sores naturally heal within a short period of time. However, for those with underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, obesity or an impaired immune system, these wounds oftentimes fail to heal properly on their own, leading to extended hospital stays, high healthcare costs or potentially dangerous medical complications.

WakeMed's Wound Care Center in Cary offers outpatient services to treat individuals with non-healing wounds. Situated close to WakeMed Cary Hospital, the center addresses wounds of various kinds by employing a mix of conventional and innovative therapies designed to support and speed up the healing journey.

The center is staffed by skilled clinicians who focus on specialized wound care. Patients receive evaluations for any underlying health issues that might impede effective healing, such as diabetes or physical injuries. Alongside their health care team, patients are given a tailored recovery plan that includes the most effective treatments to guarantee the best outcomes and thorough patient support.

The center caters to a wide range of wound types, such as diabetic foot ulcers, venous ulcers, pressure sores, arterial ulcers, postoperative wounds, traumatic injuries, radiation wounds, compromised skin grafts and flaps, crush injuries and beyond.

The WakeMed Wound Care Center is located at 210 Ashville Avenue, Suite 420 in Cary.
