Total Joint Replacements

joint replacement team

WakeMed Cary Hospital is proud to be a Center of Excellence Joint Commission accredited health care provider. The Joint Commission is a health care accrediting agency with strict rules and regulations participating organizations must follow to ensure they are providing the best health care in safe facilities following best practices.

As part of this recognition, patients can access a variety of services for total joint replacements. For those dealing with joint pain that affects their daily activities, WakeMed Primary Care – Cary has several providers who can evaluate the condition and give appropriate referrals. Joint replacement surgery is seen as the conclusive treatment for hip and knee arthritis after non-surgical treatments have been unsuccessful. Non-surgical treatment options consist of weight loss, general conditioning, physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, braces, heat or cold therapy, and injections. Once these no longer bring relief, allowing a patient to attend to activities of daily living, our primary care team can assess a patient for the next best steps in their continuum of care.

Wake Orthopaedics – Cary specializes in total joint replacement. If joint replacement surgery is recommended, Wake Orthopaedics is prepared with a comprehensive array of joint replacement services. Our team of specialists works together closely both before and after the surgery to evaluate your condition and continuously monitor and manage your overall performance and progress.

Referrals may also be made to community providers with surgical privileges at WakeMed Cary Hospital.

WakeMed Sleep Center Gets to the Root of Sleep Problems

Man in sleep center

If you’re concerned about your ability to sleep, it might be time for a sleep study. Sleep studies are used to diagnose common sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea, rapid eye movement (REM) behavior disorder and periodic limb disorder, among others.

Sleep studies can be performed at home or in a sleep study facility. The initial sleep study is often conducted at home.

Non-Surgical Procedure for Weight Loss? Yes!

Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) is a weight loss option for individuals who have a body mass index (BMI) of at least 30 and do not qualify for or do not want invasive bariatric surgery. The typical ESG patient will lose up to 50 percent excess body weight in approximately six months.

Taste the Variety with Cary Hospital Cuisine

holiday meal

Holiday meals bring the WOW at Cary Hospital. While Food & Nutrition exceeds expectations every day, the holidays present an opportunity to ensure a season that's merry, bright and super tasty for those in the hospital during this season.

Brian Smith is lead for Cary Hospital Food and Nutritious Services, which contracts through Morrison Health Care. He works with Sandra Banuelos, the patient services manager and Norma Sanchez, the executive sous chef. The Food and Nutrition Services team provides food and dining for all the patients throughout all inpatient units.

Breakfast ranges from 6:30 am to 10 am, lunch runs from 11 am to 2 pm and dinner may be served as early as 3:30 pm for some patients, though the vast majority will be served between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm. The team continues to provide cold options between meals, to include sandwiches, salads and more.

Sous chef Norma Sanchez leads much of the patient offerings and has been in the culinary industry for more than 20 years. She offers a wide range of food options, including traditional American, southern, Mediterranean, Mexican, Asian and Indian.

Brian Smith shares, "Delicious dishes are not thought of as hospital food. We're exceeding standards for our patients, realizing that no one wants to be in the hospital. With limited choices due to their medical conditions, we want to enhance their stay by offering a variety of high quality, delicious cuisine options to make being in the hospital a bit more of a pleasant experience."
