About Me
Dr. Olivia Hurd-Pipalia is a board-certified psychiatrist in osteopathic medicine, dedicated to teaching residents, students and advanced practice providers. She is interested in both anxiety disorders and personality disorders. She has a keen interest in psychotherapy and believes that employing a therapeutic approach is crucial for psychiatrists in their practice. She earned her undergraduate degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC. She then completed her osteopathic medicine degree from Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lynchburg, VA. She relocated to Greenville, NC, and was a resident and chief resident at East Carolina University-Brody School of Medicine/Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
Dr. Hurd-Pipalia believes in a patient-centered care philosophy that emphasizes the importance of patients participating in their treatment planning. In her role as a psychiatrist, she motivates her patients to assume accountability for their own treatment. She finds it important to examine how deeply mental illness is woven into an individual's identity and to explore any hidden issues related to this. Her aim as a psychiatrist is to comprehend the ways in which social, cultural and political elements impact mental distress. She aims to prepare the upcoming generation of psychiatrists to engage in critical thinking and adopt a teamwork-oriented method for patient care.
Outside of work, Dr. Hurd-Pipalia enjoys spending time with family, being outdoors, hiking, going to the beach, swimming in the pool and boating. She also enjoys cooking and trying new recipes. She is part of the Peloton community for workouts that span strength training, cycling, walking, hiking and more.
