About Me
Dr. Michael Ferguson is an expert ear nose and throat doctor, with clinical interests ranging from pediatric ear nose and throat (ENT), sinus disease, thyroid surgery and cancers of the head and neck. He loves helping his ear, nose and throat patients of all ages and is also an excellent teacher, and is the recipient of the Kaiser Permanente Excellence in Teaching Award. He is the director of WakeMed Physician Practices' ENT, Head and Neck Surgery Program.
Dr. Ferguson was a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a bachelor's degree in history before completing medical school at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine. He completed an internship in general surgery at UNC Hospitals, and also was a resident in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UNC Hospitals.
He is an Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Ferguson is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. He has been published in journals such as Archives of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, Audiology & Neuro-Otology, and the Emedicine Online Textbook of Otolaryngology. He has presented his research at national and international conventions, including the Newton Fischer Society Annual Meeting, the American Academy of Otolaryngology National Meeting, the Acoustical Society of America National Meeting, and the Cochlear Implant International Meeting.
As a former soccer player and "nearly" Raleigh native, he and his wife have two beautiful daughters. He enjoys tennis, golf, backyard grilling, spending time with friends and family, and spends some late-night hours playing keyboard and singing back-up vocals in a local indie rock band, The Balsa Gliders.
