Our Programs
In-Person Cardiac Rehab
Our in-person cardiac rehab program is offered at both our Raleigh and Cary Hospital locations. Our program is medically supervised by physicians and supported by a dedicated team of nurses, counselors, nutritionists, and exercise and fitness specialists.
Sessions are tailored to your individual needs and take place in a safe, encouraging environment. Here’s what you can expect:
- Personalized assessments and consultations
- Up to 36 monitored group exercise sessions
- Educational classes on heart health and lifestyle
- One-on-one psychosocial counseling session
- Nutrition guidance and support
You’ll exercise under close medical supervision, with your vital signs monitored throughout each session. Activities may include walking on a treadmill, cycling on a stationary bike and strength training – always at a pace that’s right for you.
Best of all, you’ll be part of a group that cheers each other on. Many participants find motivation, connection and confidence through shared experiences and support, all while improving their heart health and overall well-being.
Virtual Intensive Cardiac Rehab
WakeMed now offers virtual intensive cardiac rehabilitation through our collaboration with Recora, allowing you to complete your program from the comfort of your home.
Using Recora’s innovative platform, you can participate in live one-on-one sessions or group classes via a Wi-Fi-enabled device. You may use your own device, or one will be provided by Recora.
This virtual program delivers the same expert guidance, personalized exercise plans and recovery benefits as our in-person program, with added flexibility in scheduling and no need to travel.
Safeway to Fitness
Once you’ve graduated from cardiac rehab and built up your strength and confidence, keep your momentum going with our Safeway to Fitness program.
Safeway to Fitness is a supervised group exercise and health promotion program. Join us at our Raleigh Campus or Cary Healthworks locations for guided group workouts and weekly wellness talks. We’ll cover everything from staying active and eating well to managing stress and boosting your emotional well-being – so you can feel your best, inside and out.
You can join without a physician referral. While insurance doesn’t cover the fees, the program is designed to be affordable so you can continue building strength and connection after rehab.
Mended Hearts Support Group
Share your story, get advice, provide encouragement and learn about heart health in the Mended Hearts support group for patients and families.

Getting started is easy!
To participate in our cardiac rehab program – whether in-person or virtual – you’ll need a physician referral. Most insurance plans fully or partially cover the cost, but we recommend confirming your coverage with your insurance provider before getting started.
