WakeMed Earns Straight A’s from The Leapfrog Group
May 1, 2025RALEIGH, N.C. (May 1, 2025) – All three of WakeMed’s hospitals received A’s on the latest Hospital Safety Grades, which were released today by The Leapfrog Group. The accomplishment places WakeMed Raleigh Campus, WakeMed Cary Hospital and WakeMed North Hospital in elite company: only 29% of hospitals nationwide received A grades on the spring 2025 safety scores.
WakeMed Raleigh Campus and WakeMed Cary Hospital are also among the 346 U.S. hospitals designated as “Straight A” hospitals for achieving an “A” for spring 2025 and sustaining the grade for five or more grading rounds. This select group represents 12% of all eligible hospitals.
The Spring Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are based on performance against 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them. All three of WakeMed’s hospitals scored above the Leapfrog mean (average) in nearly all measures.
WakeMed Raleigh Campus and WakeMed Cary Hospital have now earned the elite “Straight A” designation eight times in a row. WakeMed North Hospital has received an A grade six out of the last eight reporting periods.
