Follow the instructions your physician's office has given you for diet, fluid intake and medication before the procedure.
With a colonoscopy, it is important to follow the diet instructions and bowel preparation before the procedure. Your bowel movements must be clear or yellow in color. This bowel preparation may cause you to use the bathroom frequently. Notify your physician if you are unable to take the bowel preparation or if your bowel movements are not clear or yellow.
Review your medical history and present medication that you are taking with your doctor. It is important to let your doctor know if you are taking:
- Coumadin
- Heparin
- Plavix
- Nuprin
- Vitamin E
- Ibuprofen
- Aleve
- Advil
- Ordus
- Motrin
- Naprosyn
A nurse may call you before your procedure to review your health history and instructions.
If you have diabetes, please discuss with your physician using oral or insulin hypoglycemic agents before the procedure.
What To Bring To Cary Hospital On Procedure Day
- A form of identification showing your legal name, such as a driver's license.
- Your insurance card.
- A list of all medications you are currently taking, and a list of possible allergies.
- Your glasses, hearing aids and/or contact lens case.
- Your insulin, if you have diabetes.
- Your inhaler, if you are asthmatic.
- Your CPAP machine, if you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea.
IMPORTANT: For your safety, if you are having a procedure requiring sedation, you must be accompanied by a responsible adult &emdash; someone who can hear your post-procedure instructions, drive you home and remain with you for your recovery. You will not be able to drive for 24 hours after your procedure.
