Pharmacy Preceptors


2022–2023

 Caitlin Akerman

Caitlin Akerman, PharmD, BCPS, is a cardiology clinical staff pharmacist at WakeMed and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Caitlin serves as a preceptor for both pharmacy students and residents on their Internal Medicine rotation. Additionally, Caitlin serves at the PGY2 Teaching Coordinator and the PGY2 Cardiology Longitudinal Ambulatory Care Rotation preceptor. Caitlin gratuated from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and a PGY2 Cardiology Residency at WakeMed. She also completed a teaching certificate program through the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Caitlin's current projects include student MUSEs regarding IV vitamin K utilization, SGLT2i inpatient utilization and adherence to HIT/T orderset updates. Areas of interest for Caitlin include heart failure, anticoagulation, transitions of care and ambulatory care services.

 Janna Beavers

Janna Beavers, PharmD, BCCP, FHFSA, CPP, is the current Cardiology Clinical Specialist at WakeMed and the PGY2 Cardiology Residency Program Director. Janna is a graduate of Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.  She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice and PGY2 Cardiology residencies at WakeMed.  Janna precepts PGY1 and PGY2 residents and offers rotations in general cardiology, heart failure and anticoagulation. Janna is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP), American College of Cardiology (ACC), and Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA). She is a current member of the HFSA Membership Committee. Janna completed a teaching certificate program through UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy during her PGY2 residency and is a clinical adjunct faculty member with Campbell University. In addition, Janna currently serves as a co-course coordinator for the Cardiology Elective and lectures in the elective and therapeutics course at Campbell University. Her research interests include acute and chronic heart failure pharmacotherapy regimens, optimization of guideline-directed medical therapy in patients with heart failure, cardiometabolic optimization for cardiac patients, and implementation and evaluation of transitions of care pharmacy services. Janna is also a member of several hospital multidisciplinary committees, such as the Heart Failure Task Force and Invasive Cardiology.

 Jeannette Bouchard

Jeannette Bouchard, PharmD, BCIDP, is one of the Infectious Disease and Stewardship Clinical Pharmacy Specialists at WakeMed. She is a graduate of Regis University School of Pharmacy in Denver, CO. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy residency at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh, PA. She then completed her Infectious Diseases PGY2 and Fellowship training at the University of South Carolina/Prisma Health Hospital. Jeannette completed a teaching certificate program through both UPMC and the University of South Carolina. Her research in residency/fellowship focused on combination therapy for serious MRSA infections, alternative dosing strategies for beta-lactams, and therapeutic drug monitoring for beta-lactams. Other areas of interest are Gram-negative resistance, HIV and HCV.

 Kitty Cheung

Kitty Cheung, PharmD, BCPS, obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005 and completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Durham VA Medical Center in North Carolina.  Kitty joined WakeMed in 2006 as clinical staff pharmacist and is currently the Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator for the Medicine and Surgery areas.  Additionally, Kitty assumed the position of Pharmacist Educator for the department in August 2013 and is responsible in orientation of new pharmacists, pharmacy residents and pharmacy students at WakeMed.

 Mary Covington Coleman

Mary Covington Coleman, PharmD, BCPPS, is the current Women & Children’s Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator at WakeMed. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and graduated with honors from Meredith College. She continued her education at Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences where she obtained a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and also graduated with honors. She later completed her Pharmacy Practice and Pediatric Specialty residencies at Augusta University Medical Center (formally known as MCG Health System) and University of Georgia School of Pharmacy in Augusta, GA.  At WakeMed, she serves as pharmacy liaison for several committees including NICU CQI, Pediatric CQI, and the Pediatric Systemwide Committee. Mary Covington received the Pyramid Society Award which is given to WakeMed employees nominated by colleagues who go above and beyond. Her professional areas of interest are medication safety/administration, pediatric critical care, pediatric emergency medicine and pediatric infectious disease.

 Kelsey Dobbins

Kelsey Dobbins, PharmD,  BCPS, BCCCP, is a Clinical Staff Pharmacist at WakeMed, primarily staffing in the Cardiothoracic Surgery ICU and the Cardiac ICU. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice and PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy residencies at WakeMed. During her PGY2 residency, Kelsey completed a teaching certificate program through UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Her research in residency focused on multimodal analgesia in non-surgical critically ill patients and anticoagulation in patients with COVID-19. Current areas of interest include advanced heart failure, optimizing sedation/analgesia, prevention and management of ICU delirium and antimicrobial stewardship. She is also a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).

 Shaily Doshi

Shaily Doshi, PharmD, BCPS, is a clinical staff pharmacist at WakeMed primarily staffing in the cardiology and medical surgical units as well as operations in the main pharmacy. She graduated from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in 2017. She then completed her PGY1 pharmacy practice residency from Augusta University Medical Center where she obtained a teaching certificate through UGA and completed her PGY2 Infectious Diseases residency at WakeMed. Shaily is currently a member of American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), ACCP Infectious Diseases PRN where she serves on the publications sub-committee and American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

 Amanda Gorman

Amanda Gorman, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP, is the current Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator at WakeMed Cary Hospital. Amanda graduated from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2017. After graduation, Amanda completed PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Critical Care Residency at WakeMed. Her residency research focused on the impact of pharmacy operational initiatives and documented penicillin allergy on time to antibiotics in sepsis. During her PGY2 training, Amanda also completed a teaching certificate with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Amanda currently serves as a preceptor for student pharmacists and PGY1 residents at WakeMed. Her current areas of interest include pharmacy administration, antimicrobial stewardship, and medical/surgical critical care. Amanda is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).

 Mollie Grant

Mollie Grant, PharmD, BCCCP, is a Critical Care Clinical Specialist and the current PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director at WakeMed. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy residency and PGY2 Critical Care residency at WakeMed. Throughout her residencies, she completed the Teaching Certificate Program and served as an adjunctive clinical instructor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, teaching in the Pharmaceutical Care Lab course and the Acute Care elective. Her current areas of interest include antimicrobial stewardship, management of acute withdrawal syndromes, and neurocritical care. She currently serves as a preceptor for PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Critical Care WakeMed residents, as well as a preceptor for students from UNC and Campbell schools of pharmacy. Mollie is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP), the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).

 Cristina Kaifer

Cristina Kaifer Gurganious, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP, is the current Medical ICU Clinical Staff Pharmacist at WakeMed. She is also the Coordinator for the PGY2 Critical Care Residency. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Critical Care Specialty Residency at WakeMed. Throughout her residencies, she completed the Teaching Certificate Program and served as an adjunctive clinical instructor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, teaching in the Pharmaceutical Care Lab course. Her residency research focused on agents utilized for procedural sedation in the emergency department and the impact and implementation of a pharmacist driven stress ulcer prophylaxis discontinuation protocol in the ICU. Other areas of interest include antimicrobial stewardship, emergency medicine, surgery/trauma and neurocritical care. She currently serves as a preceptor for WakeMed pharmacy residents and students from UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Cristina is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).

 Shannon Holt

Shannon Holt, PharmD, BCPS, BCIDP, is the Clinical Pharmacy Manager and Antimicrobial Stewardship Coordinator for the WakeMed Health & Hospitals health system. She also serves as the Program Director of PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency and Assistant Professor of Clinical Education for the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. In addition, Shannon teaches didactic lectures within the Infectious Diseases elective.  Shannon is a graduate of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. After graduation, she completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at Duke University Hospital and a PGY2 Specialty Residency in Infectious Disease/Internal Medicine/Academia with Campbell University at Duke University Hospital. Her current research interests include antimicrobial stewardship and improving outcomes in patients with healthcare-associated infections. Shannon is also actively involved in several hospital committees, including Chair for the Antimicrobial Stewardship P&T sub-committee. She also is an active committee member within the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and the Society of Infectious Disease Pharmacists (SIDP).

 Alison Ivey

Alison Ivey, PharmD, BCPS, BCIDP, is an Infectious Disease and Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at WakeMed. She graduated from South Carolina College of Pharmacy -– MUSC Campus in 2018 and completed both her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency at WakeMed. Her residency research focused on the treatment of invasive infections in IV drug users and initiatives to reduce length of hospitalization in this population who are not candidates for outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy. During her PGY2 training, Alison also completed a teaching certificate program through the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Alison currently serves as a preceptor for both pharmacy students and residents. Her current areas of interest include antimicrobial stewardship, HIV, and antimicrobial resistance. Alison is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), ACCP Infectious Diseases PRN, and the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP).

 Erin Ledford

J. Erin (Allender) Ledford, PharmD, BCCCP, BCCP, is the Cardiology Critical Care Clinical Specialist and Director of the PGY2 Critical Care Residency at WakeMed. Erin is a graduate of the University Of Kentucky College Of Pharmacy. She completed her Pharmacy Practice and Critical Care Specialty residencies at the UNC Hospitals. Throughout her residencies, Erin taught a section of the Pharmaceutical Care Lab at the UNC Eshelman School Of Pharmacy.  To date, she still teaches for the Critical Care Elective.  Erin also serves as an instructor for both ACLS and BLS for the American Heart Association. Erin has been nominated to serve in several leadership positions within the Cardiology PRN of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). She is a past-President of the Triangle College of Clinical Pharmacy (TCCP) and a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and the Carolinas-Virginias Chapter of SCCM. Her current research focuses on the use of insulin in critically ill patients, Anti-Xa-based heparin and enoxaparin nomograms, Code Cart optimization, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols, anticoagulation practices for percutaneous left ventricular assist devices and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and antithrombotic and antimicrobial considerations for transcatheter aortic valve replacement. She is also actively involved on several hospital committees that seek to identify and implement various initiatives to optimize patient care while promoting fiscal responsibility.

 Keliana O'mara

Keliana O’Mara, PharmD, is the current Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Specialist at WakeMed. Keliana is a graduate of UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 at Moses Cone Health System and a neonatal pharmacotherapy research fellowship at Cone Health's Women's Hospital of Greensboro. Keliana offers PGY1 and PGY2 rotations in neonatal intensive care. Her areas of research interest include neonatal pain and sedation management, neonatal abstinence syndrome, dosing accuracy of medication delivery devices in neonates and pediatrics, neurodevelopmental impact of medication use in neonates and individualized pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics dosing in neonates.

 Nick Ovin

Nick Orvin, PharmD, BCPS, is the Cardiology Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator at WakeMed. Before taking on his current coordinator position, Nick staffed primarily in the Cardiology critical care and Cardiology stepdown units. He graduated from the South Carolina College of Pharmacy – MUSC Campus and completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and a PGY2 Cardiology Residency at WakeMed Health & Hospitals. Throughout his residencies, he also completed a Teaching and Learning Certificate Program with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and served as a teaching assistant for Pharmaceutical Care Lab. His previous research focused on the incidence of post-operative atrial fibrillation following cardiac surgery in patients receiving dopamine and the acute diuretic-sparing effects of sacubitril-valsartan in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. Areas of interest for Nick include cardiovascular risk reduction, anticoagulation, heart failure and cardiac surgery. He is currently a member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).

 Zach Pedretti

Zach Pedretti, PharmD, BCCCP, is a Clinical Staff Pharmacist at WakeMed, primarily staffing in the medical, surgical-trauma and neurocritical care units. He attended pharmacy school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy and subsequently completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Critical Care Residency at the UNC Medical Center. Throughout his residences, he served as an adjunctive clinical instructor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, teaching in multiple Pharmaceutical Care Lab courses as well as coordinating the Critical Care elective course. His residency research focused on evaluating patient outcomes following implementation of a computer decision support software for IV insulin infusion management for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. He is a member of Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).

 Patrick Prendergast

Patrick Prendergast, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP, is currently a Clinical Staff Pharmacist at WakeMed. He primarily staffs across all our ICUs and the emergency department. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. He completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN and a PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at WakeMed. During his PGY2 he completed a teaching certificate through the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. He currently serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents at WakeMed. His current areas of interest include antimicrobial stewardship, emergency medicine, and cardiology critical care. He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).

 Beth Sawrey

Beth Sawrey, PharmD, BCPPS, is the current Pediatric Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at WakeMed. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry with a minor in genetics and graduated with honors from North Carolina State University. She continued her education at Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences where she obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy and graduated with honors. She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and PGY2 Pediatric Specialty Resident at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC (formerly Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center). Beth is a member of Pediatric Pharmacy Association (PPA), American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), and American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacist (ASHP) and serves as an article reviewer for The Journal of Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics. At WakeMed, she currently serves as the pediatric preceptor for PGY1 and PGY2 residents, as well as Campbell and UNC pharmacy students. She also received the Pyramid Society Award which is given to WakeMed employees nominated by colleagues who go above and beyond. Beth’s areas of clinical interest include pediatric COVID and MIS-C management, pediatric critical care and interdisciplinary patient care initiatives.

 Abby Williamson

Abbie Crisp Williamson, PharmD, MHA, BCPS, is the current Executive Director of Pharmacy. Since joining WakeMed in 2010, she has been in several positions within the Department of Pharmacy such as the Operations Manager at the Raleigh Campus and the systemwide Clinical Manager. She is a native of Raleigh, NC. She received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2004 and a Master of Healthcare Administration Program from UNC School of Public Health. She completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency and Critical Care Residency at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (formerly Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center) in Winston-Salem, NC. Upon completion of residency training, Abbie worked as a surgery/perioperative pharmacist at Duke University Medical Center before transitioning into the Clinical Coordinator of Perioperative Services. Abbie is an active participant in the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists. She has served as the Chair of the NCAP New Practitioner Network, as a member of the NCAP Board of Directors, and currently serves on the NCAP Health-System Practice Academy.  In addition, she has served as a member of the Compliance Committee for the North Carolina Physicians Health Program. She lives in Raleigh with her husband and three children.

 Rhonda Zillmer

Rhonda Zillmer, PharmD, is the current Medication Safety Officer for WakeMed. She is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve medication safety, designing and implementing solutions to support the highest quality medication management system. Since joining WakeMed in 2003, she has been in several positions within the Department of Pharmacy such as Pediatric Clinical Specialist, Pediatric Clinical Coordinator, and the North Hospital Pharmacy Manager. Rhonda received her PharmD from the University of Georgia and completed a pharmacy practice residency at The Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado.   She completed her Masters of Business Administration program at Meredith College in Raleigh in December 2019. Rhonda lives in Cary with her husband, two teenagers and their sweet dog, Daisy.
