ACL Injuries

Our orthopaedists treat a significant number of patients with torn anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs) with the goal of restoring full function and stability to the knee. Most cases require surgery to repair the damage, and traditionally, the recovery time has been up to a year.

ACL Procedure and Treatment

NCFC athlete

Our orthopaedists use a minimally-invasive surgical procedure to repair torn ACLs. By inserting a fiberoptic scope into a small incision in your knee, the surgeon can replace your torn ligament and secure it in place. Not only is the resulting scar tiny, but your hospital stay also drops to a few days instead of a week. Your recovery time also shrinks to a few months, and you can return to daily activities and work or school far quicker than after traditional surgery.

Sports Injury Prevention

WakeMed and the North Carolina Football Club (NCFC) have partnered to provide young athletes and their families with information on nutrition and injury prevention, including proper stretching before activities. A little stretching can go a long way to preventing an ACL tear. Additionally, Wake Orthopaedics offers a highly effective soccer injury prevention program.
