About Me

For Dr. Stuart Russell deciding to be a cardiologist just seemed to make sense. “I can remember even in high school writing and talking about the heart whenever I could for school assignments.”

His dedication and fascination with the heart has led him to a stellar career in cardiology including research and clinical trials, medical disease management, treatment and procedural work including heart transplantation. Dr. Russell has published numerous articles, participated in research and clinical trials and is a frequent national and international speaker on cardiology and advanced heart failure topics.

Dr. Russell is board certified in cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure/transplant cardiology and is dedicated to the care and treatment of advanced heart failure patients. He routinely performs right heart catheterizations and heart biopsies having performed more than 5,000 of each procedure.

“In the field of cardiology, I believe we understand it fairly well. We have a number of therapies to make patients feel better and live longer, and if that doesn’t work there are surgical options available including transplantation.”

Dr. Russell is married and has three children.  His boys are quite active and his patients can expect to hear updates on their latest swim meets and hockey games during office visits with Dr. Russell. When he’s away from the hospital or office, Dr. Russell likes to navigate his way on the farm roads of North Carolina on his bike.
