About Me

Dr. Stephanie Mayo is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neonatologist with clinical interests in long-term outcomes of prematurity. She attended medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Carolinas Campus in Spartanburg, SC. She then completed her residency and neonatal-perinatal fellowship through Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, NC.

Dr. Mayo believes that fostering honest and open communication is essential for effective patient care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Her approach emphasizes the importance of transparency between health care providers, patients and their families, ensuring everyone involved is well-informed and engaged in the care process. By prioritizing clear dialogue, Dr. Mayo aims to create a supportive environment where families feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their concerns. This not only helps build trust but also enhances the overall experience for patients and their families during what can be a challenging time. In the NICU, where every decision can significantly impact a newborn's health, maintaining this level of communication is crucial for delivering the best possible care.

Outside of work, Dr. Mayo enjoys exploring different outdoor activities and local eateries with her family. They are especially fond of local bakeries.
