About Me
Dr. Bovard is a board certified bariatric surgeon, who joined the WakeMed family when Bariatric Specialists of NC became part of WakeMed Bariatric Surgery & Medical Weight Loss.
Originally from Colorado, Dr. Bovard completed his undergraduate degree at Colorado State University. After a stint in the US Air Force which afforded him the opportunity to travel worldwide, he matriculated into medical school at Ross University School of Medicine.
During medical school Dr. Bovard had his first opportunity to learn about weight loss surgery first hand from one of the forerunners of modern bariatric surgery, Dr. Merlin Ottman in Colorado. It was this experience that would set the course of his life. Dr. Bovard completed his residency in Baltimore at St. Agnes Hospital, a Johns Hopkins University affiliate hospital that was home to Maryland’s most successful and prolific bariatric program.
Dr. Bovard is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgeons, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and a member of the North Carolina Medical Society. He is presently pursuing another nationally recognized specialty board in medical weight loss. After his recent attendance of advanced post-doctoral specialty training at Harvard School of Medicine, Dr. Bovard hopes to be one of only few bariatric surgeons in the country to achieve the status of Diplomat of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. With this designation he will be offering the highest standards of both surgical as well as medical weight loss options.
Dr. Bovard resides in Raleigh with his wife and two beautiful children. Outside of the office, he enjoys playing golf and traveling with family and friends.
