About Me

Dr. Russell R. Margraf specializes in skull base neurosurgery and vascular structures in the brain, as well as in treating brain tumors.

“Anything that’s technical or a challenge is what I enjoy,” he says.

Board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Margraf is proud of the focus the Raleigh Neurosurgical Clinic — which he joined in 2002 — places on the patient.

“When you get the news from a primary care doctor that you need to see a neurosurgeon, that’s generally not a good thing. I’m sensitive to that, and we try to have a lot of empathy and understand that patients are nervous.”

Dr. Margraf earned his medical degree at Albany Medical College. He then completed both his internship in general surgery and his residency in neurosurgery at Duke University, where he served as Chief Resident.

He is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and has been named a Top MD by Consumers Checkbook. He has presented numerous times at both national and international meetings and has also published many articles related to neurosurgery.
