Minh Nguyen, MD

Dr. Minh Nguyen is a fellowship-trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon with clinical interests in reconstructive microsurgery, particularly focusing on breast reconstruction, lymphedema surgery and lower extremity reconstruction. He is passionate about refining techniques that not only achieve excellent surgical outcomes but also improve long-term function and patient quality of life. 

He grew up in Vietnam and then attended nursing school at University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC. Upon graduating, he worked in the UNC Burn Center as an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse before matriculating into medical school at the same university. This is what led him to plastic surgery. He then relocated to Columbus, OH, for his residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. During his training at Ohio State and University of Chicago, he was trained by two of the pioneers in lymphedema surgery in United States. With this experience, he aims to bring this cutting-edge surgery to the Triangle and the state of North Carolina. He is very passionate about this practice and believes it will serve patients with cancer-related lymphedema well. Beyond this training, he also completed his fellowship, focusing on microvascular surgery at University of Chicago in Chicago, IL.

Dr. Nguyen’s approach to patient care is centered on compassion, communication and partnership. He believes in listening closely to each patient’s story and understanding what matters most to them. He educates patients on all available options and involves them in all decision-making process. Dr. Nguyen’s ultimate goal is to restore both form and function, helping patients return not only to health but also to confidence and quality of life. He strives to guide patients through every step of their journey with clarity and empathy, making sure they feel supported and involved in their care.

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Nguyen finds his greatest joy in cooking and spending time with his wife and two boys. Cooking allows him to be creative and unwind, while family time keeps him grounded. He also love hosting family and friends for dinner since he finds sharing a meal together is the best way to connect with people. Additionally, a prior hobby, which comes in handy at a family dinner party, is photography.
