About Me

Dr. Luma Essaid is a board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatrician with clinical interests in preventive care, newborn and infant care, child development and patient education. Her time in pediatric critical care has also given her valuable experience caring for medically complex children and recognizing serious illness. Dr. Essaid completed her undergraduate education at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC. She remained there to complete medical school and residency at University of North Carolina Children’s Hospital. Next, she relocated to Palo Alto, CA, for a pediatric critical care fellowship at Stanford Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. She returned to Durham, NC, to complete an additional fellowship at Duke Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Essaid believes great pediatric care begins with trust, compassion and open communication. Her goal is to provide evidence-based care while partnering with families to help children grow and thrive. She strives to ensure every family feels heard, respected and confident in their children's care.

Outside of work, Dr. Essaid enjoys spending time with family, staying active, baking and exploring new cultures and cuisines through travel.
