About Me
Dr. Kevin Davidson is a board-certified physician in five disciplines and specializes in pulmonary, critical care and interventional pulmonology. He joined WakeMed after completing fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the nationally renowned University of Colorado and National Jewish Health, consistently ranked among the nation's top programs for respiratory medicine. He subsequently completed additional subspecialty fellowship training in Interventional Pulmonology.
Dr. Davidson provides comprehensive care for patients with complex lung and airway diseases and has particular expertise in pulmonary nodules, lung cancer diagnosis, pleural diseases and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy. He performs state-of-the-art minimally invasive procedures, including robotic bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), advanced airway interventions including airway stenting, valve placement and pleural procedures, allowing patients to access leading-edge therapies close to home. He leads WakeMed's Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis Program, dedicated to the care of patients with this rare orphan lung disease and directs WakeMed's Comprehensive Pulmonary Nodule Program. Dr. Davidson is passionate about building multidisciplinary programs that bring together specialists in pulmonology, thoracic surgery, oncology, radiology, pathology and patient navigation to provide coordinated, timely and personalized care.
Dr. Davidson's philosophy of care centers on empowering patients and their families through education and shared decision-making. He believes that providing patients with a clear understanding of their condition and treatment options enables them to take an active role in their health and medical decisions. He has twice been recognized by the Gold Humanism Honor Society for his compassionate and patient-centered approach to medicine.
"I often meet patients during times of uncertainty and difficult circumstances. My goal is to provide rapid, safe answers, guide patients with compassion and deliver exceptional care when it matters most."
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Davidson has spoken nationally on topics related to respiratory medicine and public health. He has appeared on CNN and MSNBC and has been interviewed by The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal regarding pulmonary disease and public health issues. He serves as a peer reviewer for scientific and clinical research and is actively involved in medical education, mentoring physicians and trainees in pulmonary and interventional pulmonary medicine.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Davidson enjoys distance running, spending time outdoors and exploring the Triangle with his wife, children and their dog, Juniper.
