John P. Tanner, MD

Dr. John Tanner is a board certified family medicine physician with clinical interests in diabetes, high blood pressure, skin problems, and sports medicine. He joins WakeMed Primary Care from UNC – Chapel Hill’s Campus Health Services office where he provided primary and acute care services and served as the after-hours clinic supervisor and was responsible for overseeing the advanced practice provider team. His previous experience includes Duke Primary Care and Rock Quarry Road Family Medicine. He is a graduate of East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine and completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of Virginia Health System. Dr. Tanner enjoys working with patients to find the best way for them to achieve their health goals. He believes in the importance of caring for physical and mental health needs. He likes treating acute illnesses and chronic diseases.

In his free time, Dr. Tanner enjoys spending time with his wife and children, reading about history, and playing sports.
