About Me
Dr. Jason Haag is a general cardiologist, specializing in coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias (i.e. atrial fibrillation) and preventative care for cardiac disease (i.e. hypertension and high cholesterol). His clinical interests revolve around cardiac imaging, including echocardiogram, stress testing, cardiac MRI and nuclear imaging. Dr. Haag sees patients both in the clinic setting as well as those who have been admitted to the hospital.
Dr. Haag first became interested in medicine during his summer breaks from college while working as a patient assistant at a local hospital. This role allowed him to connect with the patients and hear their unique stories and experiences. For him, it was very gratifying to be part of a patient’s recovery, which helped inspire him to become a doctor.
After completing his fellowship in clinical cardiology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Dr. Haag joined WakeMed Heart & Vascular. Prior to that, he completed his residency in internal medicine through the University of North Carolina Health Care System where he served as chief resident. He was especially interested in working at WakeMed because this organization always puts the patient first and is dedicated to treating the people of Wake County, regardless of their ability to pay.
“I treat patients who are CEOs of Research Triangle Park companies as well as patients who struggle to make ends meet,” said Dr. Haag. “Here at WakeMed, our mission is to serve all of our patients to the best of our ability, and that is something in which I take great pride.”
Dr. Haag was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, and their three children, Amelia, Nathaniel and Abraham. He also enjoys history, gardening and tennis, and is an avid Virginia Tech fan. This makes him impartial to the North Carolina basketball scene, which comes in handy when treating patients who are passionate about local college basketball teams.
