Gita Fleischman, MD

Dr. Gita Fleischman is an Otolaryngologist, Head and Neck Surgeon, with a clinical interest in general ENT, pediatric otolaryngology, sinus disease, facial aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, thyroid disease, hearing disorders, ear disease and surgery, and head and neck oncology.

She grew up locally in Cary, North Carolina and obtained her undergraduate and medical school degrees at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. In addition to having a masters of science and completing her residency, she pursued additional clinical training in aesthetic and reconstructive facial plastic surgery, with a special concentration in functional and cosmetic nasal surgery, facial rejuvenation, oculoplastic surgery, Mohs reconstruction, and maxillofacial surgery.

While in medical school, Dr. Fleischman was a Losken Craniofacial fellow, and conducted research aimed at creating tissue-engineered skin, bone, and complex tissues for reconstruction of craniofacial defects such as cleft lips and palates. She received numerous awards for her research, including those from the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology, North Carolina Plastic Surgery Society, and UNC School of Medicine.

As a resident at UNC, she received the NIH T-32 National Research Service Award and the Alpha Omega Alpha Service Project Grant. During this time, Dr. Fleischman conducted research in the field of computational fluid dynamics, studying how interventions such as airway reconstruction in children, rhinoplasty, and sinus surgery affect physiologic airflow.

Dr. Fleischman has extensively published and presented her research at several national and international conferences.

On a personal note, Dr. Fleischman is married to Dr. David Fleischman, an Ophthalmologist and eye surgeon specializing in Glaucoma. They have two daughters and enjoy traveling whenever possible.
