About Me

As a board certified cardiologist and clinical cardiac electrophysiologist, Dr. George Hamrick specializes in treating arrhythmias, including heart palpitations, rapid heartbeats and slow heart rhythms. This includes the implantation of cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators, the implantation of bi-ventricular devices for cardiac resynchronization therapy, and performing surgical procedures on the electrical system of the heart. Impressively, Dr. Hamrick was the first heart surgeon in Wake County to implant a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), and he performed this procedure here at WakeMed.

Born in Falls Church, Va., Dr. Hamrick joined WakeMed’s cardiology team in 1995. He was drawn to this organization’s commitment to the patient and family, including the continuous investments WakeMed makes in new technology, state-of-the-art facilities and adding to the team new specialists, who bring new areas of expertise.

“WakeMed has always been committed to building and maintaining the best Heart Center. We have an outstanding staff as well as superior facilities, mobile transport services and 24/7 emergency services that are especially important for heart attack and arrhythmia patients,” explained Dr. Hamrick. “We are dedicated to always being here for our patients and this community, as well as working together as a team to ensure our patients always receive the best care possible. For these reasons, WakeMed is where I bring my own family for care.”

Dr. Hamrick and his wife, Dr. Terri Hamrick, have two children. They live In Cary, N.C. Outside of medicine, Dr. Hamrick enjoys hiking and swimming with his family, and attending the symphony and theatre (Broadway).
