Emmy Yang, MD, MTS

Dr. Emmy Yang is an internal medicine physician who loves the full spectrum of internal medicine and geriatrics. She is passionate about the care and quality of life of surgical trauma patients, vulnerable patient populations and individuals experiencing cognitive impairment. Her clinical interests include comprehensive geriatric care, interdisciplinary teamwork, medical education and the intersection of medicine and theology.

Dr. Yang earned her undergraduate degree at Yale University in New Haven, CT, majoring in molecular biochemistry and biophysics. She completed a Master of Theological Studies (MTS) at Duke Divinity School in Durham, NC through the Theology, Medicine and Culture Fellowship. She then completed her internal medicine residency and geriatrics fellowship at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.

Dr. Yang wants her patients to feel cared for and known. As an internist and geriatrician, she deeply values each person's individuality. She seeks to understand her patients' medical conditions and their relationships, values and goals. Together with patients and their families, she develops care plans that are as unique as the individuals she serves.

She is conversational in Spanish and Mandarin and welcomes patients from diverse backgrounds.

When not caring for patients, Dr. Yang enjoys being active and outdoors — hiking, walking, running, playing frisbee and biking. She loves visiting farmers’ markets, exploring constellations in the night sky, reading books and cooking for friends and family.
