About Me

Dr. Ellen Dillavou is a board-certified vascular surgeon who practices in the full gamut of vascular surgery. Dr. Dillavou’s special interests include dialysis access and veins. She received her medical degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Dillavou completed her general surgery internship, residency, and research fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fellowship trained in vascular surgery from University of Pittsburgh (UPMC) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Dillavou brings a vast amount of experience and skill to WakeMed. She joins WakeMed most recently from the Chief of Vascular Surgery position from a local hospital. She is active in vascular surgery societies and lectures nationally and internationally on vascular disorders and treatments.

Dr. Dillavou enjoys playing an important role in her patients’ lives where she can build long-term relationships. She feels that it is her job to listen to patients, help them understand their condition, treatment options and how to proceed. She finds that this approach sets the foundation for a therapeutic partnership. In her free time, Dr. Dillavou enjoys spending time outdoors with her two children, cat and close friends.
