Donald "Nelson" Gardner, MD

Dr. Nelson Gardner is a board-certified family medicine physician with clinical interests in evaluating and diagnosing acute conditions at any age and managing chronic conditions to meet high standards of quality care. Dr. Gardner earned his medical degree and completed his family medicine residency from East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Gardner brings over three decades of experience to WakeMed with a wealth of patient care experience in all aspects of health care delivery. He focuses on all aspects of primary care from newborn care to pediatrics, adolescent care, adult and geriatrics. In 2008, Dr. Gardner received the NC Family Physician of the year award.

Dr. Gardner strives to provide the most personal, comprehensive, timely and effective evaluation and treatment for the whole range of conditions that affect the health of his patients. He believes that he has a responsibility to approach each patient and problem as if he were sitting on the exam table instead. When not at the office, Dr. Gardner enjoys gardening after growing up on a farm. He also enjoys astronomy and spending time with his family.
