Dawn Toussaint, DNP, FNP-BC, FMP-C, RNC-OB

If you have ever left an appointment feeling rushed, dismissed or unheard, Dawn Toussaint will be there for you. A doctor of nursing practice and board-certified family nurse practitioner with decades of clinical experience, she joins WakeMed with one foundational belief: every patient deserves to feel genuinely heard before anything else happens in the room.

Toussaint began her career as a nurse, and women’s health has been at its center ever since. She helped open WakeMed North Hospital in 2015 and, a few years later, helped establish WakeMed’s first OB Emergency Department. Her nursing experience also spans labor and delivery nursing, outpatient women’s health, complex pregnancies and metabolic conditions. 

Her approach is simple: she asks questions, listens fully, and never makes patients feel like a problem to be solved. There is no judgment about where patients are starting, what choices they have made or how long it took them to seek help. She sees her role as a partner in health, not an authority over it. Whether managing a longstanding condition, looking for answers or desiring to feel better, Toussaint is here to walk alongside her patients with compassion and curiosity.

Outside the caring for patients, Toussaint is a wife, mother and G-ma. She loves going to the beach, camping, hiking and caring for her mini farm. She knows what it is like to be a caregiver who also needs care, and she brings that groundedness and authenticity to every patient encounter.
