About Me
Dr. Cherise Brackett is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neonatologist with clinical interests that include neurodevelopmental outcomes of extremely preterm infants and using big data to inform neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) interventions that can improve NICU and post-discharge patient outcomes. She began her postsecondary education at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC. She relocated to Charlottesville, VA, thereafter, where she completed medical school, her residency and her fellowship training at the University of Virginia Health System.
Dr. Brackett’s personal approach to patient care stems from her experience of having children in the NICU. She knows firsthand the vulnerability, fear and uncertainty that parents feel when their hopes for a smooth transition to parenthood are disrupted. That experience deepened her commitment to meet families where they are — with honesty, compassion and recognition of the immense strength it takes to walk through such difficult times. Families in the NICU are often experiencing the worst moment of their lives, and she considers it a privilege to provide exceptionally compassionate and comprehensive care during this time. She strives to honor patient and family trust with excellent medical care, reassurance, clear communication and human connection.
When not seeing patients, Dr. Brackett’s personal interests and hobbies include exploring the parks, museums and children’s activities in the Raleigh area with her husband and two sons. She also enjoys traveling and trying new cuisines.
