About Me

Dr. Brandon Roy is board certified in general surgery, and his clinical interests are advanced laparoscopic treatment of reflux, hernias, and the surgical treatment of obesity. He specializes in bariatric surgery which helps restore extremely overweight patients to more normal weight levels, allowing them to live healthier, fuller and more active lives.

Dr. Roy received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, MN, and completed his residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI, and his fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at the University of Alabama -Birmingham. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in genetics and cell biology from the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Roy's research has been published in journals such as The American Surgeon.

If you need bariatric surgery, Dr. Roy is highly trained to guide you through the process of reducing extra weight, which can lead to increased risk of serious health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and osteoarthritis.

I was in extreme pain when I came to wake Med North. The care and attention that I was given was outstanding. Dr Roy listened to my concern over sensitivity to anesthesia and how pain meds make me sick. He adjusted my pain management accordingly. He heard me! The outcome of my surgery was as hoped for. The doctors and nurses made a difficult situation as good as possible. I could not be more pleased with the care that I received.

I work well with providers when they take the time to listen to my concerns. I prefer to work as a team when it comes to my care. I'm the expert on how I feel and what my body is experiencing. It's important to incorporate the patient in decisions that need to be made. The general surgery team is very involved in my care and takes time to listen to my concerns. Sometimes it falls through the crack but for the most part I feel respected. That's why when I got into the accident I told them to only take me to wakemed Cary even though UNC Rex was closest.
