Ashley Cairns, MD

Dr. Ashley Cairns is a board-certified, fellowship-trained general surgeon with expertise in breast surgical oncology and breast conditions. She has a strong interest in the complexities of multidisciplinary breast cancer care as well as the quality improvement of breast cancer care, high risk breast screening, and abnormal mammograms.

She began her postsecondary education at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and remained there for medical school. She completed her general surgery residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She finished her fellowship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX — where she won an award for compassionate breast cancer care. She is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Society for Surgical Oncology and American College of Surgeons. Dr. Cairns has also published numerous articles related to quality improvement in breast care. 

She is dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized, high-quality care to those with breast cancer and breast conditions. She strives to listen, comfort and comprehensively treat those with breast concerns. Breast surgery can be incredibly intimidating, and she aims to place patients at ease with individual support and expert plans.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Cairns enjoys spending time with friends and family, making pottery, playing tennis, traveling and hiking around the Triangle with her husband and goldendoodle.
