Ann Becker, MD

As the daughter of a physician, Dr. Becker wanted to practice medicine since early childhood. Born and raised in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland, she attended the McDonogh School and earned her undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Virginia in 1995. She worked in a basic science research laboratory for several years, before completing her medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2001, where she was selected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She stayed at Eastern Virginia to complete her residency training, earning Intern of the Year during her general surgical internship in 2001-2002. Additionally, she was honored as the Praecis/Gerald P. Murphy Scholar at the American Urological Association's Annual Meeting in May 2005, and she was the first female graduate of Eastern Virginia's urology residency program in 2006.

Dr. Becker is board certified in Urology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology, and her clinical interests include male and female general urology, incontinence, overactive bladder, management of kidney stones, benign prostate disease, kidney cancer, and voiding dysfunction. Prior to joining WakeMed in 2009, she was an assistant professor of urology at the Medical College of Georgia and a clinical instructor at the Eastern Virginia Medical School. She is a member of the American Urological Association, and has made presentations at the association's national meetings. Dr. Becker has published articles in journals such as, the Archives of Surgery, Molecular Endocrinology, and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology, and Metabolism.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Becker enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, as well as her beloved dogs, Zoe, Sadie and Hazel. She is an amateur photographer, and loves to be outside. She enjoys hiking, gardening, baking, playing piano, and tackling various artistic and home improvement endeavors, much to her husband's chagrin.
