RALEIGH, N.C. (September 28, 2026) – For the fifth consecutive year, WakeMed, Raleigh Radiology and Siemens Healthineers are partnering to bring no-cost 3D mammography screenings directly to uninsured women in the greater Triangle area during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Since the partnership began in 2022, 1,280 women have received no-cost mammograms through the annual mobile screening event, helping remove financial barriers to an important tool for detecting breast cancer early. This October, the organizations will continue that impact by bringing the Siemens Healthineers mobile mammography bus to WakeMed Raleigh Medical Park.

Beginning Monday, October 5, uninsured women age 40 and older can receive a free 3D mammogram in the state-of-the-art mobile mammography bus, located at WakeMed Raleigh Medical Park at 23 Sunnybrook Road. Screenings will be available:

  • Monday, October 5 – Friday, October 9: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 10: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday, October 12 – Thursday, October 15: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Over the past four years, the program has provided 258 screenings in 2022, 305 in 2023, 387 in 2024 and 330 in 2025. Together, those screenings represent 1,280 opportunities for women to access breast cancer screening regardless of their ability to pay.

Mammography remains a cornerstone of early breast cancer detection and can identify changes in the breast before they can be felt by a patient or physician. Yet financial and other barriers to care can prevent women from receiving recommended screenings, contributing to delays in diagnosis and treatment. By bringing advanced breast imaging directly into the community at no cost, the annual mobile mammography event is designed to help close that access gap.

"Early detection remains one of our most powerful tools in the fight against breast cancer, but not every woman has equal access to recommended screenings. By offering mammograms at no cost, we can help remove an important barrier to care and reach women who might otherwise delay or go without this potentially life-saving screening," said Dr. Annie Pugh, physician and program director of Transitional Health at WakeMed’s Community Population Health program, which works to improve the health of uninsured and homeless patient populations.

"Reaching this five-year milestone is a powerful reflection of what a sustained partnership can accomplish. By bringing advanced mammography technology directly into the community, we're putting innovations into action in a way that has made a meaningful difference for more than 1,200 women over the past four years," Murat Gungor, senior vice president, Head of Diagnostic Imaging, Siemens Healthineers North America.

Both WakeMed and Raleigh Radiology – WakeMed’s imaging partner – are designated Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. Raleigh Radiology will review all scans taken during the mobile mammography event and consult with WakeMed physicians on any necessary next steps.

Registration for screenings is strongly encouraged. To register for a mammogram, visit https://www.wakemed.org/care-and-services/imaging-services/mobile-mammography-event. With questions, or to register by phone, call 919-350-1317.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month and throughout the year, WakeMed encourages women to take action for early detection. Insured women can schedule their annual screening mammogram at one of WakeMed’s Outpatient Imaging locations through the WakeMed MyChart patient portal or online.
