WakeMed, Raleigh Radiology and Siemens Healthineers Bring Vital Mammography Screenings to the Community During Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October 22, 2025RALEIGH, N.C. (October 22, 2025) – WakeMed, Raleigh Radiology and Siemens Healthineers, a leading medical device company and imaging innovator, are teaming up once again to provide 3D mammography screenings to the community. This marks the fourth year these organizations have partnered to offer no-cost mammograms to women in the greater Triangle area. Last year, 387 women benefited from this potentially life-saving screening.
Beginning Monday, October 27, uninsured women over 40 can receive a free 3D mammogram in the state-of-the-art Siemens Healthineers mobile mammography bus, parked at WakeMed’s Raleigh Medical Park at 23 Sunnybrook Road. Screenings will be available:
- Monday, October 27 – Thursday, October 30 (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
- Friday, October 31 – Saturday, November 1 (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
- Monday, November 3 – Thursday, November 6 (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
The screenings are free and open to uninsured women over the age of 40 who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months.
This mobile mammography partnership reflects WakeMed’s ongoing commitment to increasing greater community access to critical breast cancer screenings and diagnostic tools. Mammography remains a cornerstone of early detection, often revealing changes in the breast up to two years before they can be felt by a patient or physician.
Cancer disproportionately affects the underserved, underinsured and uninsured. Socioeconomic barriers to essential health care needs such as cancer screenings, often result in a late-stage cancer diagnosis – making programs like this crucial for early intervention and improved outcomes.
“Early detection is one of the most powerful tools we have in preventing and treating cancer. For some women, this may be their first opportunity to receive a mammogram. Offering screenings at no cost allows us to reach those who might not otherwise have access to early detection,” said Dr. Annie Pugh, physician and program director of Transitional Health at WakeMed’s Community Population Health program, which works to improve the health of uninsured and homeless patient populations.
Siemens Healthineers is proud to support WakeMed for a fourth year in bringing advanced digital mammography directly into the communities that need it most, offering local women more accessible and comfortable breast screening through this vital mobile program,” said Murat Gungor, senior vice president, Head of Diagnostic Imaging, Siemens Healthineers North America.
Both WakeMed and Raleigh Radiology – WakeMed’s imaging partner – are designated Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. Raleigh Radiology will review all scans taken during the mobile mammogram event and consult with WakeMed doctors on any necessary next steps.
