If you’ve had an ischemic stroke at least six months ago and continue to experience weakness or limited function in your hand or arm, you may be a candidate for Stroke VNS Therapy.

Stroke VNS Therapy is an FDA-approved treatment that combines a small, implanted device with outpatient occupational therapy to stimulate the brain during rehabilitation exercises. This helps the brain create new neural pathways, allowing eligible stroke survivors to improve hand and arm function – even years after their stroke.

Who Should Attend?

This free screening is intended for adults who:

• Experienced an ischemic stroke at least six months ago
• Have some voluntary movement in their affected hand and wrist
• Continue to have weakness or difficulty using their hand or arm despite previous rehab

During your free 20-minute screening, you’ll meet one-on-one with a WakeMed Rehab occupational therapist who will evaluate whether you may be a candidate for Stroke VNS Therapy.

If you meet the initial screening criteria, the WakeMed Rehab team will guide you through the next steps, including a comprehensive evaluation and referral to determine whether Stroke VNS Therapy is right for you.
