Biography

Growing up in a family with three boys, Dr. Matt White remembers that he, or one of his brothers, was always at the doctor for some type of illness or injury. This exposure, along with family friends who mentored him in the field of medicine, helped shape Dr. White’s decision to become a doctor. Additionally, he has always been fascinated with the science of cardiology and how the heart works, not to mention the vast amount of evidence and research that helps define different treatments for heart disease.

Today a non-invasive cardiologist, Dr. White specializes in procedures such as transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, stress testing, and vascular ultrasound. He treats patients who are dealing with coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease, arrhythmias, and vascular disease, as well as symptoms of these diseases.

After completing his medical education and training, Dr. White was drawn to WakeMed due to its reputation for delivering excellent patient care as well as its mission to always put the patient first.

“Everyone here [at WakeMed] is consistently dedicated to delivering excellent patient care and continuing to enhance the patient care that is provided,” explained Dr. White. “This mission fits well with my own personal mission as a cardiologist.”

Outside of medicine, Dr. White enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah, and their two young children. Additionally, Dr. White stays fit through his love for outdoor activities such as running, biking and hiking.
