CDS Presentation

Thank you for submitting a request for a Clinical Decision Support (CDS) tool. I want to take a moment to explain the request process and the next steps. The Clinical Decision Support Committee is a multidisciplinary committee (providers, nursing, information services representatives, pharmacy) that reviews all new decision support requests for the system. We ask that you complete the attached request form to initiate the process. Based on our experience with successful CDS tools, the electronic tool is accompanied by additional efforts to address the people and process components related to the underlying issue. The goal of the request form is to help you describe the problem you are trying to solve and get a sense of the planned people/process efforts to accompany the technology solution. Once completed, this form will be sent to the committee for review and will be added to the committee's agenda. We will work with you to ensure you can attend the meeting to present the request to the group and participate in the discussion about possible solutions to solve the problem identified. Typically, the multidisciplinary discussion at the meeting is valuable for all. You are the expert in the problem and the committee is the expert in the technology options that can help solve your need.

The committee meets monthly but discusses new requests every 3 months (rotating agenda with medication alerts and review of existing alerts). In addition to presenting your problem/idea, we ask that you bring data to help the group understand the problem and the scope of the problem. Ideally, these data will continue to be collected to help evaluate the effectiveness of the decision support tool that is implemented. If the committee approves the request, we will then ask you to complete a form to guide you through the tool creation. The IS team will then work with you on the creation of the tool and implementation. We will then invite you back to the committee approximately 6 months after implementation to review the performance of the tool, data related to the problem, and end user feedback on the alert to ensure the tool is accomplishing the goal.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions related to the process, form, or anything else. Pam Rock or myself can help you with anything related to the request or process.

I look forward to working with you on this request.
