WakeMed's New Streaming Service Brings Added Reassurance, Connection for NICU Families
March 11, 2021
WakeMed now offers a new service to families in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) called NicView™ that allows parents to stay connected with their little ones. It is available at all three of our hospitals – the NICU on Raleigh Campus and the two Special Care Nurseries – Cary Hospital and North Hospital.
NicView is a secure, streaming camera system placed at designated bed spaces in our NICU. The optional, complimentary service is available 24/7, in real time, to help families bond with their preemie or hospitalized infant if and when they aren’t able to be with them in the NICU. It also means extended family members and loved ones have an opportunity to see the babies prior to going home – from a distance, which is all the more meaningful during COVID-times.
Family members can access the secure online portal from anywhere there is an internet connection via a laptop, smartphone or tablet.
"We understand this can be an incredibly difficult and stressful time and want to provide another means of support for NICU patients and families – along with added peace of mind and reassurance when parents and loved ones can’t be at the bedside,” commented Mallory Magelli McKeown, manager, WakeMed Children’s Family Navigation.
This new service and technology are made possible thanks to funding and support from the WakeMed Foundation.
