RALEIGH, N.C. (December 5, 2023)WakeMed North Hospital was once again honored by The Leapfrog Group with a 2023 Top Hospital Award, a national recognition widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards U.S. hospitals and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) can receive for patient safety and quality.

The award honors hospitals and ASCs that demonstrate the highest performance in the nation on quality and patient safety, including infection rates, prevention of medication errors and surgical safety, among other standards.

"This distinction reflects our Physicians’ and entire team's commitment and dedication to exceptional care, quality and safety standards, and our mission to improve the health and well-being of the community we serve," said Valerie Barlow, senior vice president & administrator, WakeMed North Hospital. “We are pleased to be recognized by the Leapfrog Group for our accomplishments and outstanding patient care.”

This year, 132 hospitals from across the country received the Top Hospital Award. The Top Hospitals are recognized in four categories: Top General Hospitals (34 recipients), Top Rural Hospitals (15 recipients), Top Teaching Hospitals (75 recipients – including WakeMed North Hospital), and Top Children’s Hospitals (8 recipients).

“This recognition is one of the toughest awards in the industry to earn, so the hospitals and ASCs that receive this award have demonstrated an incredible commitment to patient safety and their community,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.

WakeMed Raleigh Campus, WakeMed Cary Hospital, and WakeMed North Hospital all received A ratings on the latest Hospital Safety Grades released by The Leapfrog Group in November (Fall 2023 ratings).

Full results of the 2023 Leapfrog Hospital Survey and Leapfrog ASC Survey are publicly reported and available for free on Leapfrog’s website, providing patients with a resource to make informed decisions about where to seek treatment.
