RALEIGH, N.C. (November 14, 2022) – WakeMed North Hospital has received Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the American College of Cardiology (ACC). The accreditation, which recognizes the hospital’s demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain, is based on a rigorous on-site evaluation of the team’s ability to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 730,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. Hospitals that have earned ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation have proven exceptional competency in treating patients with heart attack symptoms.

“This recognition is a credit to the hard work of our outstanding team of clinicians here at North Hospital,” said Karen Bash, MD, chief medical officer, WakeMed North Hospital. “Our community is fortunate to have such a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, clinicians, and other staff that earnestly support the efforts leading to better patient education and improved patient outcomes.”

Hospitals earning ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation have proven exceptional competency in treating patients with heart attack symptoms – from streamlined systems for admission, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment to appropriate post-discharge care to recommendations and assistance in patient lifestyle changes.

WakeMed Raleigh Campus and WakeMed Cary Hospital also hold Chest Pain Accreditation from the American College of Cardiology.
