July 25, 2022
RALEIGH, N.C. (July 26, 2022) – WakeMed has been named a 2022-2023 Best Hospital for Rehabilitation by U.S. News & World Report. A leader in quality rankings, U.S. News & World Report evaluated over 1,083 adult rehabilitation hospitals to determine the top 50 hospitals that excel in providing care to patients recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injuries, severe burns, and more.
WakeMed Rehabilitation Hospital, located within WakeMed Raleigh Campus, is a leading provider of comprehensive rehabilitation services in the Southeast. The 103-bed inpatient facility is the largest in North Carolina, and our team of care providers specialize in treating adults and children who have experienced a stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, orthopaedic issue, traumatic injury, or limb loss through rehab programs that are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)—the highest possible level of accreditation.
“At WakeMed, we support our patients on their path to recovery and their journey to maximum rehabilitation and independence,” said Tom Gough, WakeMed executive vice president and chief operator officer. “The WakeMed Rehabilitation Hospital team of specialists represent the best in health and healing, utilizing the latest rehab techniques, technology, education and more to provide the full continuum of care while helping patients and their family members restore quality of life.”
For the 2022-2023 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. In the 15 specialties, 164 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty.
“The hospitals named among the best have extensive medical expertise and a history of delivering good outcomes,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “When patients and their medical professionals are considering their options for care, the rankings are designed to help them identify hospitals that are superior in the kind of care they may need.”
U.S. News evaluated each hospital’s performance using a variety of measures such as survival rates, complication rates, patient experience and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals methodology factors in data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations and medical specialists.
