WakeMed Cary Hospital recently made The Leapfrog Group’s inaugural list of Best Hospitals in America, in partnership with Money.com. More than 6,000 U.S. hospitals went through a rigorous vetting process, and the 148 hospitals selected for the list consistently deliver the safest, highest-value care for patients along with an excellent hospital experience.

This distinction recognizes that WakeMed Cary Hospital meets the highest standards of quality and safety while working to improve the health and well-being of the community. All three WakeMed hospitals earned A ratings from The Leapfrog Group on its the latest Hospital Safety Grades (Spring 2022).

“The health and safety of our patients is our top priority, and this award supports our goal of becoming one of the top 10 hospitals in the country. I am proud of this well-deserved recognition – but most of all, I am beyond proud of WakeMed’s tireless commitment to going above and beyond for those we serve,” said Tom Hughes, senior vice president and administrator for WakeMed Cary Hospital.

WakeMed Cary Hospital is one of only 45 U.S. hospitals to take home the honor for the “General” top hospital category (four available categories: General, Teaching (Small), Teaching (Large), Rural and Children’s). The recognition reflects the commitment of our staff and providers to deliver high-quality care and improve patient safety.

To compile its new list of the top hospitals in the country in partnership with Money, the Leapfrog Group used data from the 39 performance measures in the seven different categories in its flagship 2021 hospital survey along with public data sources. The Leapfrog Group considers the quality of patient care across many areas of hospital performance in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, high-risk surgery outcomes, maternity care, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication and other errors.

Eligible hospitals were required to complete the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey and have earned an A on the most recently reported Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. Read more about the methodology .
