RALEIGH, N.C. (January 10, 2024) On Tuesday, January 9, at 7 am, WakeMed Wendell Healthplex officially opened for patient care. Located at 2021 Wendell Valley Boulevard in Wendell Falls, the 24,000-square-foot facility features a 12-bed, 24/7 emergency department alongside outpatient imaging services.

The Wendell Healthplex is home to WakeMed’s eighth full-service emergency department. An estimated 14,000 patients are expected to receive treatment in the WakeMed Wendell Healthplex Emergency Department during its first year.

“As a vibrant, growing community, Wendell Falls offers a wonderful opportunity to expand WakeMed’s footprint,” said Carolyn Knaup, WakeMed senior vice president, Strategic Ventures & Ambulatory Operations. “We are thrilled to bring exceptional care and services to the residents and families of Wendell Falls and eastern Wake County.”

Wendell is the Triangle’s fastest-growing town, and the U.S. Census Bureau reports an estimated 12,500 people call Wendell home. And with 1,800 closed homes sold in just the Wendell Falls community alone—with thousands more to come—WakeMed is excited to serve and grow alongside our neighbors.

WakeMed Wendell Healthplex and all WakeMed Emergency Departments are staffed by the same emergency physicians and are backed by our Level I Trauma Center and WakeMed Children’s in Raleigh. This is very significant to local families since 30 percent of all WakeMed stand-alone emergency department patients are children.
