WakeMed to Host Community Blood Drives with The Blood Connection

This past October, WakeMed changed our primary blood product vendor from The Red Cross to The Blood Connection. This change was made to improve efficiency and supply, while saving money on this valuable resource for our patients.

About The Blood Connection

Headquartered near Greenville, S.C., The Blood Connection is the largest independently managed, non-profit community blood center in the region. We are proud to partner with them to ensure our patients receive high-quality blood and blood products when they need them.

Donate Blood at Our Blood Drives This Week!

To kick-off of our new partnership with The Blood Connection, WakeMed is hosting blood drives at all three of our hospitals this week. Employees, volunteers, physicians and members of the community are welcome and encouraged to donate. Because The Blood Connection is a smaller organization with less name recognition than The Red Cross, your donations are essential and will more directly help our patients!

Additionally, all donors will receive a sweatshirt as a thank you for your support – to see a picture of the sweatshirt, click here.

In the near future, The Blood Connection will be hosting mobile blood drives throughout the community to collect blood for WakeMed patients. Those bloodmobiles will be branded with the WakeMed logo.
