About Me
Derek Fanto is a board-certified clinical specialist in neurologic physical therapy and the clinical specialist for WakeMed’s vestibular rehabilitation program. He has a strong passion for treatment of vestibular disorders, spinal cord injuries, individuals with stroke or brain injury as well as a number of other neurologic diagnoses. He also has a strong passion for mentorship of student physical therapists as well as other clinicians in order to promote advanced clinical practice.
Fanto’s personal patient care philosophy focuses on helping patients with orthopedic, neurologic or any other diagnosis regain and improve their function. For some, this means returning to prior capacity. For others, this involves increasing their independence and performance in their homes, at work and in the community. Derek works hard to ensure physical therapy is centered around patient goals.
Outside of work, Fanto spends his free time cooking, cycling, reading, hiking and travelling.
