Amber McVey, NP

Amber McVey is a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner with clinical interests in the full breadth of critical care patients and optimizing their disease process to allow them to resume the same or as close to the same quality of life they had prior to admission as possible. She has special interests in mechanical circulatory support devices and transplant recipients. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from University of Florida and master’s degree in nursing from University of Illinois at Chicago. McVey’s nursing background includes high-acuity, cardiothoracic surgical intensive care.

McVey believes in the value of educating patients and families with regards to their disease process and expectations of care for the immediate future and the disposition planning to get them to the next step. She feels that by empowering patients with knowledge she can help restore some sense of autonomy and shared partnership in disease management. Outside of work, Amber enjoys traveling, trying new food, bike riding, crocheting, hiking, playing piano, and spending time with her friends, family and six fur babies.
