Recovery from COVID-19 can be more difficult and complex than you think. Some patients are experiencing issues, such as speech/swallowing and cognitive deficits in addition to expected problems, such as physical deconditioning and breathing difficulties.

WakeMed Comprehensive COVID-19 Recovery (CCR) Program

The WakeMed Comprehensive COVID-19 Recovery Program (CCR) is designed to help people recovering from COVID-19 infection reach their maximum functional capacity and return to the activities they enjoy. Our program has been developed with a holistic approach to meet the needs of all patients wherever they are in their recovery.

Multidisciplinary Team

Our multidisciplinary team consists of specialized Cardiopulmonary and Neurological Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Respiratory Therapists, Dietitians and Rehab Psychologists who work collaboratively to establish patient-centered goals that help every patient reach their highest potential.

Therapuetic Methods Used

As part of our program, patients will meet individually with a Physical Therapist and an Occupational Therapist who will help determine any additional needs the patient may have — using individualized plans of care.

While in our CCR program, patients will participate in multimodal exercise training which may include:

• Strength and endurance exercise
• Balance, coordination and flexibility training
• Energy conservation and breathing techniques

Depending on patient needs, additional services will include cognitive retraining, speech and swallow assessment and training, dietary recommendations, preparation for return to work, stress management and coping skills training.
